Anon since I have spoken to friends about this Wink I am looking for an excellent IBCLC that can help me with my nursing journey. Someone who is knowledgable about TOTs is a plus.

I had a terrible time nursing my first. I paid so much to go to a private lactation consultant and she wasn’t very good. She just told me I had flatter nipples (my midwife now checked me and said my nipples are fine…) and didn’t give me any helpful advice, she told me to just formula feed and fed is best. I also had a rough recovery and after a month of agony I stopped nursing/pumping. My mother never nursed, neither did my aunts or cousins so I don’t have family support to continue. Id really like to nurse this baby. I remember the pain was so excruciating, it felt like shards of glass in my top 24/7, even when she wasn’t latched. I got her evaluated for TOTs and the ENT said she had a bit of a lip tie but not enough to get it snipped. I was told her latch was fine. Even when I pumped there was sooo much milk. I would pump for 20 minutes, and after 30 minutes my breasts filled up again and I was in agony. I fed on demand too. Not looking for someone Jewish specifically either and would prefer someone in person than over zoom. My midwives suggested someone to me but when I went to her website she listed her pronouns, wrote chest-feeding instead of breast feeding, and is inclusive to BIPOC/LGTBQA+ families. It bothers me to use someone who differs from me so politically. But maybe I should just ignore it? I have medicaid so I know I will be paying out of pocket for this.

I found this website, how do I know who is good?

Can you ask your OB or delivery hospital for a list of recommendations? I got that when I needed with my first

My midwives send their patients to this specific LC. I just don't know if I am being a bit over the top for not wanting to use someone who calls it chest feeding and writes her pronouns on her website

Betty Greenman. I never used her as I haven't needed a lactation consultant but a friend recommended her.

Op hear me out. Part of your story sounds really similar to mine. I was breastfeeding my first and pumping too. Baby was clearly gaining bh but I was always in so so much pain and it never felt like I was empty. Then the clogged ducts came. Spoke to lactation specialists followed their advice. Kept getting mastitis. Lots of swelling and pain on one side even more so. It was awfull!! Finally I went to a breast specialist and it turns out some of my ducts dont connect to the nipple. So its liked a blocked channel. Anyway if nothing else helped you maybe you want to run it by a specialist.

What is a breast specialist called?
What did you end up doing? I really tried for 5 weeks to pump/nurse but I was in so much agony, it was worse than the PP for me. I only had clogged ducts once when I stopped cold turkey. I wonder if I have ducts that dont connect to my nipple. I have been leaking colostrum for weeks now. I had so much milk by my first too

Aviva Gluck

She is also a nurse and provides postpartum support, in addition to lactation consulting. Her husband is the founder of Amudim, in case you are familiar with that organization.

Different friends were happy with both!

Amudim helps people in crisis, with a particular focus on helping victims of addiction, s-xual abuse, and trauma.

I'm actually not sure where she is located, but guessing in/near Queens, since that's where my friends and I are from.

Sounds like a great organization, I am happy it exists. Do you know if she is familiar with TOTs/body work?

My midwives send all mothers with nursing issues to that LC who says chest feeding. Do you think its crazy I feel weird wanting to use someone who thinks like that?

Where in Long Island are you? I know someone she is in the South Shore near Long Beach. I can ask her if she does house calls, but she will ask me where to. You can also PM if you don't want to answer here.
