In the crumble for sure. But it’s not 1:1, google for measurements. In the case it’s more of a risk because the texture needs to be the type of dough to hold the pie.

For crumble I do a little less oil than I would margarine, probably around 3/4 of the amount. Add it in gradually as the last ingredient and then you can stop when it gets to the right texture.
Never tried in pastry.

I always substituted 1:1 for crumble, never had any issues

Butter and margarine both have water in them, not just oil. That's why it isn't 1:1.
