My sister has been flat in bed for about 4 weeks, she is very dizzy, and her doctor says she has vertigo.
She is usually a healthy person and has a couple of children k'h but has been feeling very out of it, very week and has a really heavy feeling in her legs, especially the calf.

She says her doctor first said it was vertigo and now says she probably had covid together with vertigo.

She is frustrated as this is now going on for 4 weeks with no signs of getting better - she had one day feeling better but then back...

She wants to know if someone else had such a heavy case of covid and if she should give it more time etc.

Bloodwork was done twice and came back normal b'h.

Any advice would be appreciated.

One more thing I forgot to mention is that covid test came back negative but according to her doctor it is possible for test to be a false negative especially if it's already a while ago....

She should have her standing heart rate checked. Can be POTS. My symptoms were very similar, including my legs feeling heavy. They would get mottled and purple.

She should see an otolaryngologist to see if it’s vertigo and start treatment.

The heart rate goes up very high when the patient is upright. The veins don't construct properly, so blood doesn't make its way upward. This causes the blood to pool in the lower half of the body and less blood circulation to the heart and brain. That causes dizziness and lightheadedness.

There is a treatment for vertigo. A doctor or physical therapist can do the treatment. Also, if this doctor has been chill about the fact that she's lying in bed sick for four! weeks! she needs a new PCP. Not ok.

She should get another doctor, do more tests. Doesn’t sound like covid, or vertigo for that matter.

Thank you all for your replies.

He has apparently done bloodwork twice and b'h all came back normal.

He also has checked her heartrate - not sure how or what was done but I know he checked something with her heart and b'h was normal.

He said that her symptoms look like vertigo with covid which per the doctor covid does not always show on a test.

she went to a second opinion who also stated it's some kind of virus maybe covid with vertigo.

I was wondering if anyone has such an experience.

weakness in the leggs is not a symptom of covid?

And dizziness and lack of balance is not symptom of vertigo?

You said they did blood work, what did they look for? Did they test for mono? Anemia? Ebv?
Vertigo doesn’t typically cause someone to be do dizzy and weak they can’t get up for weeks. It typically comes and goes for a few hours at a time but lying down should provide relief.
No one can know if she has covid or any other virus without checking a test , but typically with Covid one would feel sick at the beginning .
aches and pains are normal with a virus but not typically the primary symptoms.
I would also check her blood pressure, if it’s very low that can cause dizziness.
Even if it was covid, after a month she should start getting her strength back.

My aunt has this related to Covid. She took a long time to find someone who made the relationship between covid and vertigo.

It took me about two weeks to get over my first attack of vertigo. I was so dizzy I couldn’t get to the bathroom

Vertigo is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Ask her Dr what they think is the root cause. Is it BPPV? Meneieres? Etc. All of these can be treated if you ascertain the cause.
