Hi,
I am taking on some odd jobs, and I was wondering if I needed some sort of liability insurance, and how to go about getting it.
Right now all the work is unpaid/volunteer.
I also don't have an official business. When I pay taxes, if I do charge for my services I will have m accountant deal with it then.
Please advise!

Might depend what you are freelance doing.
But regardless I'd recommend opening a business legally. Iiuc even if you just have a single member llc, which is an added paper on your regular personal tax return, it gives you the protection that if you are sued, they can only sue the llc. So you personally are still protected.

My accountant told me what to do.
Eta I wonder if someone can sue you for work they don't pay for though.

My account did it for me. It cost about $400 in NY, though this was about 5 years ago. I think you can also do it on your own, or hire a company to do it for you.

Do you think I still need an LLC if I am doing volunteer/unofficial intern freelance work to gain experience?
I get nervous about legal stuff. This is not for tax purposes, more for liability and protection.
