Anyone rent a car in Cancun? Arriving at CUN and going to Playa del Carmen. Wondering if this is safe place to drive. Just so we can drive from hotel to restaurants…. TIA

With all the crime there, and even police pulling over American tourists to say that they were speeding and extorting them for money not to arrest them (cost a friend of DH's $500), I would stick to a reliable driver that you know and not take the risk of dealing with a rental car.

We rented and had no issue with driving/parkijg/tickets etc
The one issue we had was that the rental was super cheap but the mandatory insurance coverage was expensive

You can have the hotel order you taxis whenever you’re going out. You’ll probably end up paying the same as renting.
