Wondering what others do.

Not referring to parents but rather if you are going to an aunt, sibling or sibling in law, cousin, etc.

Of course! They are going out of their way to host you. Why would you not show hakaras hatov?

Yes. Nothing expensive. A choc or candy platter.
A gift certificate for a manicure if I know the wife would appreciate it.
A cookbook. Etc

Unless I am bringing food.

Always try to bring something. Even something small like some popcorn for kids to nosh on. Shows some appreciation even if you’re family.

Some have told me not to bring again, "you're family, there's no need"

So I was wondering if it's not wanted.

We do, even to parents and siblings.
It’s such a great feeling to be appreciative.

It doesn't have to be anything big - a platter of homemade cookies, some chocolate or candy if I don't have time to bake, or for those that I know love flowers, I tell them ahead of time I am bringing flowers for Shabbos so they know not to buy. I host a lot as well and always appreciate getting soemthing from the guests to acknowledge the work put into hosting, even for family. There may not be a NEED, but it's still a NICE thing to do.

With family so nice not to feel the need to bring, packing up takes time and energy just getting there is a whole thing unless u live nearby

If I had to spend extra money on gifts it doesn’t feel like family kinda feels like being a guest and coming from a Hungarian gift giving home just my mom grandmothers would say totally not necessary and mean it..

We bring photos in nice frames occasionally or birthday gifts but not shabbos guest gifts
