What would cause my 21 mo old to cry and cry and cry when put to bed when previously she loved to go to sleep? I would just put her into her crib and she would tuck her knees under her stomach, all cozy, and go to sleep without a peep. Out of the blue she started crying, some nights in the middle of the night too. How can I fix this? Sad

I was thinking it might be something like this, how can I teach her that her crib is a safe place?

I was also thinking nightmares. Maybe you can give her a cozy blanket with your scent on it that she will be familiar with. Or maybe soft music until she falls asleep.

Recently happened to one of my kids. Went on for about two weeks. Don’t know exactly what was going on, but we collectively had stomach bugs and fevers and other viruses. Likely she also had an ear infection that bothered her more at night. She then went through a few days with no appetite and then snapped back to herself.

I think it's normal development for that age to suddenly realize "hey I don't have to stay in here! If I cry mommy will come rescue me." My daughter went through this phase too (several times) and I basically have to retrain her that night time is for sleeping. I go in and give her a hug and kiss, re-tuck her in and say good night.
