Dh and I always disagree on this question.
When going out to eat at a pizza place or other casual dining places, do you clear your table before leaving?
I feel like it’s not polite to walk out and leave your crumpled tissues, cups and empty plates or trays. I always grab my trash, sweep the crumbs off the table, wipe the spills and drop off trays.
Dh thinks it’s nice to clear your table but not expected and even pretentious. He claims the waiters are there for that reason.
What do you think?
(Ps this is not an issue in frum society lol, just putting it in a forum so people can respond anonymously.)

Of course! I don’t spray it or wipe it down (which is what I expect the staff to do)
Husband and I are in complete agreement

I might put it all in the tray, but I don’t clean it. Unless I’m in an especially gracious mood. It’s not expected in the eateries I frequent. Isn’t this why I pay four bucks a slice?

If it’s the type of restaurant where my food is brought to me then no. If I have to get the food myself then I also clean up myself, though I usually just dump the trash (not wipe it down)

Definitely.
At a nicer place they clear for you. At a pizza place it’s mentschlich to do a basic cleanup.

Expected or not, I felt it isn't menshlich to leave your mess for someone else to clean up. It's not like it takes major effort to spill your tray in gd trash anyway.
Just like I don't appreciate when the people in my house leave their mess for me to clean up.

Most of the ones I go to it’s expected. There’s big garbage cans with space on top for the trays and everything else is disposable and goes in the garbage. One place we go to on occasion is a bit nicer, uses real dishes and there doesn’t seem to be anyplace you would clear to so we leave everything on the table.

I always clear my garbage at fast food places. If it's handed to you on a tray over a counter as opposed to having waitstaff bring plates to the table, it's your responsibility.

I always do. My kids always find it funny, they say we paid for the service as well as the food.
But it doesn't feel right to leave the mess for someone else.
And yes my kids laugh but I do feel it's a good teaching/midos opportunity.

We always clean up at bagel, pizza, and fast food places. And if my kid drops something big on the floor, I'll pick that up too. We feel that's the mentchlich thing to do.

No way.
He's got five guys back there sitting on stools, waiting, and you want me to clean up? After paying $30 for a plain pie?
No.
I don't get this "mentschlich" pretense. The staff is paid to do this!!!
