I’m asking about this particular oven-
https://www.lowes.com/pd/GE-5-.....aw.ds
My old oven, the grates had a shine and I was told that if I put them in the oven to self clean they wouldn’t shine anymore. I self cleaned them many times anyway and it didn’t really bother that they weren’t as shiny.
The new type of ovens, the grates aren’t shiny. So does that mean that they will look the same if they go through the self clean process?

Do you mean stove grates or oven racks?

I self clean the stove grates every year. They did get a bit discolored, but it doesn't bother me.

Do you have a similar oven to the one I posted?

They discolor/become rough. Hard to slide pots to another burner.

Thank you. That would be annoying if it’s hard to slide pots around especially because the oven is only a year old.
I am going to make a pesach kitchen next year. I will obviously buy a new oven then. If I buy separate grates and burners for my regular oven this year so I can use it for pesach, it will cost over $200. Sounds like I should just get a new oven…. Kashering everything in the self clean oven would solve the problem but I obviously don’t want to ruin anything since that’s permanent.

Do you find it hard to slide pots from one burner to another?
What do you do about the griddle?

It's simple to kasher the grates on your own, without self clean.

Clean grates. Clean blech or metal cookie sheet. Place the clean metal sheet on top of the grates and turn up flames to highest setting. Wait until grates glow, a bit red. This can take some time like half hour.
If they don't have rubber feet, it's even easier. Put them in the oven to 550 for 40 minutes, for libun kal. (But if they do have rubber feet, those will melt and be a thing of the past using this method.)

I don't use the griddle ever, I just cover it with foil for pesach.

I also don’t use the griddle aside for sometimes putting food down on it.
Doesn’t the bottom of the grates have tiny rubber pieces? What happens to the rubber tips when you self clean? Did they melt?

Beware. Lots of ovens break when you do self clean. They aren’t really made for self clean.

You can’t get a decent oven for anywhere close to $200.

I know. But why spend $250 on parts when I would have to spend over $600 next year?

I just checked my stovetop. The small rubber tips are actually not on the grates. They are on the oven itself. Maybe that makes things easier?

What's the best way to clean this oven? The top, grates, insides?
