I'm also pregnant, and hate the regular maternity stores especially at plus sized. She gave me a few beautiful dresses to try and I went home with a something I actually feel good in. I highly recommend this store. |
Agreed! Had such a nice experience there last summer. Wonderful store

You feel like poop remembering the good old days when everything you put on looked pretty darn good and the hardest part of shopping was narrowing down what to take home and what to leave behind. You stand there critiquing ever lump and bump on your oversized body. You wonder what's wrong with the people designing clothes for your size - they all seem to be some sausage casing for you to squeeze into in an attempt to dress like your skinny friends, or they are moomoos that make you feel like a beached whale.
But today insult was added to injury. Three of the four stores I went to shop in informed me they are no longer carrying plus sizes.
So yay, no I move from a bad shopping experience to a no shopping experience. I get the joy of doing all (ok most) of my shopping online so I can try on a hundred things at my house and after I'm thoroughly depressed I can have the task of packaging up and returning by mail 98 of those 100 things. Woohoo!
Thanks, world.
Rant done. |
I have never seen so much negativity on the site as I have anywhere else about body image. Ladies what do you expect after having babies and living full lives? We have emunah for everything else but somehow being above a size 10 is a death sentence. It's really sad and depressing!! Why are we defining ourselves about how we look in clothing? I am literally baffled at how the frum world is so so obsessed with this. Okay end rant.
Now you asked for stores so here you go-
D-rama
Mayas place

If you're on Instagram look up my friend Alyssa Goldwater. She is a plus size queen with amazing fashion sense and many reels on this topic/stores and her own journey.

I love these dresses. Not sure they will suit me though. I feel like those flowing dresses make me look even bigger. See, this is what I'm talking about.... I want to go try them on in a fitting room. Not order, try on, and hope I ever find time to go to a post office and return.

Beutiful in monsey is great store but I can't afford to shop there for everyday stuff. If I have a close simcha or some other major event I would definitely check them out and I always find there.
I usually end up order stuff by shein and returning 75% of stuff.
Separate ANNOYING thing about frum clothing being SO OFF WITH SIZING
I remember as a pre-teen/teen crying in the dressing room that I need an XXL when in Macy's I was a M or L
As an adult it is upsetting and when I get home from a shopping experience I am in a terrible mood. . But I can't handle it for all the self conscious young teens who haven't yet learned to be comfortable in their own skin and they need a 3x or 4x when they are really an xL

Yeah it's pricey, I got for a wedding. But for weekdays, h&m & even Amazon have beautiful stuff. Macy's too.
When I was a very "normal" size I never shopped in Jewish stores because I felt so horrible about the sizing. Like at h&m I would've been a small / medium and Jewish stores x large 😐

Chinese sizing runs small, narrow and flat.
Also, the less fabric, the less costs on their end.

The sizing is a joke. Please don’t let it get to you! |
Thanks for the info. There's a polka dot outlet sale in RBS tomorrow (never heard of them until today) and was considering going. I'm a nonjewish XL so I guess I'll just forget about that.
Do they sell Daniella Faye where you live? Her stuff are not frum sizing and she goes to 3XL. I know she's been shipping alot to stores in the USA....

I recently moved from rbs. I found some beautiful things at tamari and they had 2x and 3x. Not cheap but worth feeling good!

Chinese sizing is based on the average sizes of Chinese people. It really doesn't make sense to use it for clothes marketed primarily toward Americans or Europeans.
