I see these U-Haul trucks parked at random corners throughout Boro Park and Flatbush accepting collections of clothing abd shoes. Any idea where these garbage bags of things go (if they're not picked through by passersby?) Is this a legitimate tzedakah or a glorified way of tossing your unwanted or unneeded things in the garbage?

I wonder the same. As someone who needs handmedowns, I hope if it's nice clothing it goes to families who use it not sold by the lb

I agree. Aside from a few pieces for which I might be able to possibly recoup some of the money that I spent that I wish I could find a good consignment seller (I have decent quality pieces—not high end designer, but very presentable) I would be so much more comfortable knowing that I could allow someone who might be able to use my clothing or shoes to enjoy that.
If on these trucks they’re only selling by the pound then they could use clothing that is ready for the garbage, not wearable items.
Would you or anyone know of any clothing/shoe gemach in Boro Park or Flatbush that accepts? Thanks.

I don’t trust these trucks I suspect a lot of it sold for scraps. This is why I only give to people directly. Bh there is no shortage of “customers”.

I don’t know but I have neighbors that put out boxes and they’re never picked up. They’re thrown out eventually and the people have no idea.
I think with a bit of effort we can all find someone to enjoy our stuff that’s in good condition.

According to a friend of a friend that used to work there, the clothes are donated to people and not sold by the pound. Thats why they request that the items donated are clean and in usable condition.
If you have things that are no longer usable try pickpurple since they sell their stuff

So interesting that people here are saying they would accept hand me downs. I had a few stuffed garbage this past season of clothes for teens, women, younger boys all from the yr before and no one wanted it. I may have teen clothing in near perfect condition if anyone wants me to reach out to them within the next week or so I’d be happy to give it to you. The style is not Boro park more Flatbush.

Who is none?
I found several people via imamother and now they’re steadily taking my stuff. Sometimes they complain it’s too much🙃 but they still faithfully come pick up. I also did several one time handoffs. I didn’t even see them just put out the stuff and they picked up.

I found a friend who happens to have similar ages and genders to me just 2 years younger. I send her my kids stuff after each season and her kid wear it a year or two later.
I wish there was a way to connect people who want their clothes passed down to someone else with people that will actually use them.

This friend lives out of town too. I ship them to her after the season. She pays for shipping.
It makes me happy to know that my kids clothes are not just being wasted as soon as they grow out of them.
I wish there was some kind of online system that would match people who have and need hand me downs.
