Would you purchase a dishwasher for a newlywed if you had the money to do it and you knew your child had the room in their new place?

Why not?
Do they want one?

Definitely. Does being a newlywed mean you have to work harder in the kitchen?

If they wanted it, and I could afford it, I'd love to buy it for them.

My first apt had a dishwasher! Amazing for that first pregnancy that was the absolute pits....and the business with kids who followed.

Go for it!

(On top of this, im betting your dd works)

With only two people it often means leaving dishes a few days while the dishwasher fills up. If they want it, that's the only consideration as to why not.

No. The first home is not the permanent one, and they may not be able to take it with them. I might get a countertop one, but as a wedding gift. Not just because.

That being said, I do keep an eye out for discount appliances to buy for my daughters’ eventual use.

Newer dishwashers are efficient enough that it's still more efficient to run even half full vs washing by hand.

Efficient just means they use less water. They also do a worse job than the old ones, in my experience. It’s pretty well- known. If you want truly clean dishes, you’re going to end up hand washing a bunch of things anyway.

Ive had a 45 cm dishwasher for the last 5 years. If something doesnt get cleaned, I let it soak and then I run it through the disheasher again. Why would I hand wash it? It will just go in the next load.
