I'm helping my daughter with her report and we can't remember the details of the story..hoping someone can help
The story of 2 rabbinim traveling in a carriage and the townspeople came out to greet them..only to find the rabbis had each joined the crowd in welcoming his colleagues
Anyone know names of the rabbis? Or source of the story?

The other person was Rav Yaakov Lorberbaum, (Rav Yaakov of Lissa) who was known as the Ba'al haNesivos.

Hmm..I Googled" r akiva eiger carriage" and found it with the second person as the chasam sofer..
Are you sure?

I googled this now and saw on Chabad.org the version that he was with the Chassam Sofer going to Posen.
But most other versions you can find online say the story happened with Rav Yaakov of Lissa, on the way to Warsa.

You're welcome.
As hashgacha would have it, it happens to be the Yahrtzeit of Rav Yaakov M'Lissa this week (On Shabbos or Sunday). In a short biographical sketch about him, this story was mentioned, and I recalled seeing this thread last week.
