What do you do with it?
Especially interested in the not typical.
I’m a teacher, looking to go for my masters (didn’t need it for my job until now) and curious what I can do that’s more lucrative and out-of-the-box with the degree.
Or not bother 😂

I have a BA in psych and a MS in Educational Psychology (psychology of learning and teaching). Currently I have 11 years of teaching under my belt (various grades and subjects from 4th-12th grade) and I hope that once my children are older and I have more time on my hands/more experience I hope to be able to do teacher consulting/training. That's really what the degree is geared for...

Is this a good job? Worth it to go back to school for this?

It's great if you want to work part time. I mean, I pretty much work full time (I also teach), but you just have to realize paychecks are inconsistent as you don't get paid yom tov, absences, etc. But pay is good per hour.

After a couple of years you learn how to estimate.

My math is something like this, and it generally turns out to be true:

Hours in caseload per week
Times hourly rate
Times 4 for approx weeks per month
BUT figure a school year is really more like 8 full months (Sept first getting set up. Oct Yom tov. April Yom tov. June ends before the end. Winter holiday break, midwinter break, miscellaneous absences etc. I find 8 months of 4 weeks per month turns out to be pretty accurate on average)
So hours times rate times 4 weeks times 8 months, divided by 12, is what I consider my monthly salary for budgeting purposes.

I do have a summer job but that gets handed straight over to summer expenses so I do my budgeting based on my school year job.

I have an M. Ed, after 15 years in the classroom, I primarily teach swimming. My methodology definitely came from my experience and training.

I got an email this week from a local teacher resource center looking to hire 3 different positions that are not teaching but require teaching experience. They were looking for a curriculum developer, copy editor and educational specialist.

I have a masters in ed. I quit education for direct sales in 2001 and from 2004 to 2011 I was making a full time income in direct sales. (2001 to 2004 I was battling a chronic illness that is wonderfully in remission, BH--- I was sort of selling, but sick far too often to make decent money). 2011 to now I'm still in direct sales but have stepped down my role and no longer make a full time income from it---- I more work it as a hobby and add in other things to fulfill me as time permits because around 2011 is when things got very tricky with my two special needs children and they've been my main career since then. I've added all sorts of fun things through the years..... two of my faves have been licensed tax advisor and playgroup sub. Now I'd say a chunk of my day revolves around my kids appointments and therapies and planning for them, a chunk revolves around my direct sales business, and a chunk around playgroup subbing (and babysitting). Housework and laundry gets back burner attention. Smile

If I ever go "career" again, it won't be in education. And now that I'm 50 I can't see myself playgroup subbing FULL TIME as a career down the road, so I'd maybe get re-licensed and go back into tax.
