Is it too early to start my almost 3.5 months old with baby jars or cereal? When did you start giving your baby other food other than nursing/formula?

my pediatrician said when your baby starts to notice food and show an interest you can start table food. cereals first (to me it makes more sense veggis first) usually 4-6 months

Yes.4 months is the earliest to give solids, then it should only be given if there are weight gain issues or reflux. if you do give it, the baby should have full control of his neck muscles.
6 months is the time that is recommended to start.

I started my babies on solids when they seemed hungry - the nursing was no longer enough. this was at about 5 - 6 months.

When they can pretty much sit, that means internally their digestive system has also matured a bit. (That does not mean I'm feeding my sitting 4 month old solids though; I'll probably wait a few more months before starting her.)
Before then, it's not really good for them.
You also have to make sure the tongue thrust reflex has gone.
Depending on when you start, you can start with various foods. A 4 month old I wouldn't give meat to, but if you're starting at 6 months, pureed chicken is a really good iron-rich food so you can skip the cereal stuff.
