I love beans, and was looking for something that could be used as a main dish instead of chilli - and I found this!
I did not use basil or oregano, instead I spiced it with cumin, chilli powder, cajun seasoning, and onion salt. I also used oat flour instead of bread crumbs. I fried it in a nonstick frying pan with a bit of olive oil instead of grilling it.
Ingredients:
2 (15 ounce) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
1 sweet onion, minced
2/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon sweet basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 eggs
salt and pepper
Directions:
1 Place black beans in a bowl and mash with a fork.
2 Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
3 Divide into 6-8 equal portions and shape into patties.
4 Place patties on a medium-hot grill for several minutes per side.

I'd love to make this, Defy, but I'm hesitant. You know what happened last time I tried frying something that was supposed to fry in a non-stick pan.
This has eggs so I'll give it a try. Thanks.

that sounds good.... I may need to try it one day- this is my current, recipe, which is nice because it has no eggs in it- something we are forever running out of in my house....
Ingredients
6 ounces corn
15 ounces black beans
1 1/2 cups oats
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon Sazon Goya seasoning
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Directions
1Mash the first 2 ingrediants together either by hand or with a quick pulsing in the food processor.
2Mix all the ingrediants together.
3Let sit 15 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed by the oats and the mixture is moldable.
4Shape into patties- I got 8 nice size ones out of this recipe.
5Broil for 3-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the burgers.
oh and since sazon goya isnt kosher, I made a mix for it consisting of - 1/8 tsp. garlic power, 1/8 tsp. cumin, 1/8 tsp coriander and 1/8 tsp. salt

I copied and pasted the exact recipe, but here's a link so you can see any modifications that other people made to the recipe.

I got 12 small burgers out of the recipe and just ate one for lunch. I put it on a bun with salsa and cheese.

That's funny, Taliaville, that's the recipe that I almost went with, but didn't like the fact that it had corn in it.

You can sub other veggies- like an onion and some garlic instead.... I just used corn because my husband will not eat anything with onions or peppers in it....

Do you happen to know if these freeze well? I'm seriously considering making them, but not too many people are around here at the moment to eat them...

Thanks Defy, I tred them with some variation & it was quite good.
I'm on a diet, so I skipped the bread crumbs & used 3 whites instead of 2 whole eggs. I spiced it your way.
I served it to the kids in whole wheat buns with ketchup.

I forgot to write that I used red beans instead of black.
