is it hard? does it take along time, then you feel like, what a waste of time, or did it really help you make good food for pesach?

excuse the ignorance, but why not just buy? Of all the available pesach products, this one has to be the cheapest.

chen- some ppl don't buy ANYTHING processed for pesach.
I wish luck to the brave soul who ventures to make this! Takes about 16 potatoes to get a small amount of p.starch.....
(sorry don't have a recipe)

Do you really have to discard the potatoes afterwards?

Long story short, I found it wasn't worth it. By us, DH was happy with applesauce with nuts on it for breakfast or a snack. Or fruit salad.
People who hold strictly like that don't expect a potchke like potato starch cakes!

I never make either of those two things for Pesach. There are plenty of other things to eat that don't require so much work.

You could make cakes with whipped eggs whites. Potato kugul doesn't need starch, and I'm sure there's more. If I were you, I wouldn't bother.

If you have a "kugel attachment" on your processor (basically a fine grater--we had to buy it separately) its not that hard.
1) You grate a bunch of potatoes, squeeze all the liquid thru a cheese cloth or cloth diaper (the more you squeeze, the more starch you will get.)
2)Let the starch settle at the bottom of the bowl and pour off the by now brown liquid.
3)You can pour in more water to "rinse" the starch and pour that off too once the starch has settled.
4)Let it dry for a few hours (It does not become 100% dry)and use. It doesn´t keep for too long, so you should use it soon.
With the potatoes you grated which are now sans starch----mix with a little salt, roll into little balls and drop into boiling water or soup for delicious ,chewy potato knaidlach.
Chen, I don´t make it every year...but yes, we do not use any processed products .
