frustration is hard. you need to give your child the tools to communicate using what he is capable of.
what sounds can your child make?
what I do with my 26 mo. old son (who said only one word bye until 25 months) is make up new words that are easy for him to say to replace the harder ones. like water. he cannot say water no matter how hard he tries, however he can say wawa so thats what I taught him to say when he wants it. I have used the sounds he can easily make to produce new words for the basic things he needs.
like moo moo= pacifier, baba= backpack, croutons= ooh ah, please= eeee
I am teaching him to say yah when I ask him if he wants something, it takes practice but he can make the sound yah, I just need to make sure when I say do you want milk he says yah before he gets it.
he recently learned how to say no, and "bop!" for stop
very useful.
everything else he just points or says ehhh. and I understand him.
also he rarely says what he wants right away, he first cries then I need to go through the list of possible things:
I say "do you want wawa? say wawa if you want wawa"
no response
ok next:"do you want moo moo? say moo moo if you want moo moo"
etc. and when I ask him if he wants something he cannot say:
"do you want milk? say yah if you want milk"
it works for me.
