what arts n crafts skills can a 3-4 yr old master?
painting
cutting
gluing

am I right?
r there more?

the first step in creating a decoration is putting a smock on ur child and self, and protecting area craft is to be made.
that way u can be relaxed and have fun without getting annoyed, or being annoying.

somethings to make:
those paper chains - buy or cut strips of paper (shiny glittery pretty paper) and glue the links shut.
use crinkled paper to fill in a picture - draw a basic picture (shivas haminim, arbah minim, succah) cut squares of colored tissue paper, crunch up the paper, dip in glue and paste appropriate colors in picture area.
finger painting - can get messy but might be fun.
wrap shiny foil squares around walnuts to hang as stars

Cut out shapes - like shofar and pmegranate etc and let him put stickers on tehm. Then hang them by a string.

Make a Bruchim habaim or other sign for him to colour in .

I still ahve stuff my kids did in gan.. anything I wanted to keep - we laminated.

Thank you all for your advice. We started putting pretty gold and silver patterned fabric on black paper and making a chain out of it.

Drape them across the schach or tape them to the walls. They should be light enough - 5-6 year olds are harder to decorate with.

I've been doing this one with my kids since they were really little:

Get some contact paper and some of that colored thin see through paper (the type they put into gift bags when you get a present. I forget what it's called.) Also get some glittler and beads, if you're not afraid they;'ll swallow it.

Cut up the colored paper and let your kids stick it on the contact paper. Let them choose where they want to sprinkle the glitter and beads.

Fold the paper in half, and then tape the edges shut with wide tape. Punch a hole, thread a string, and hang in your succah.

When the light catches the glitter and the pretty colors it has a pretty cool effect!

I'm planning on taking all the colored pictures of Succos themes that dd made (I was about to chuck them), cutting them out, pasting on color paper, and laminating.
Hoping to make some paper chains too. (Maybe I will laminate the paper first, so as not to have colors dripping all over when it rains?)
And maybe some painting activity too.

my friend's sister did something so cute! she cut out houses to make a city-like look on an oaktag, then she took off her kids' socks & shoes, dipped each of their feet in paint (each kid got a different color) and made footprints in front of the city. she did it also, and she bragged that she even got her husband to do it!!(saying, come on-the kids will enjoy it so much more...!!!) and she wrote on it (kids helped cut out & glue the letters) "omdos hayu ragleinu bisharayich yerushalayim"
ill admit, its probably messy, but if you do it on a plastic tablecloth and do each kid separately, washing his/her feet before you do the next, it could be so cute! she told me her kids LOVED it-much more than they enjoyed making a chain together the next year!

These are so much fun and such creative ideas. Thank you. I hope we have time to do a few of them.
