so ... in tefilas geshem it says in reference to moshe ...
על הסלע הך ויצאו מים
"he struck the rock & it streamed forth water"
here we are asking for rain and we remind Hashem of moshe hitting the stone instead of talking to it ? was he not punished for doing so ?

There's an earlier point, can't remember which parsha When Hashem specifically told Moshe to hit a rock for water. The chait happened later.
