I'm weaning my 19 month old. Still nurse occasionally during the day, but trying to cut out the night nursing. When he wakes up at midnight or so, I put him back to sleep without anything, but when he wakes up at 3 or 4 am, he wont go back to sleep without being nursed. A few times my husband tried giving him something to eat when he woke up- like macaroni, etc, and he devoured it, and then went back to sleep.
I know people say kids over a year shouldnt need to eat in the middle of the night, but this kid is hungry, it seems! If the kid just wanted to nurse, I'd say thats comfort. But if the kid only goes back to sleep after eating real food, how likely is it that this kid is just hungry?

My 19 month old eats a lot but is still very skinny. Is it possible that because my son's metabolism is ultra fast (mine was also as a kid), by the time 3 or 4 am comes around, there is nothing left in his system and he is REALLY hungry?

He eats supper at about 7, sometimes a drop earlier, goes to sleep between 7:30 and 8:30, sometimes a drop earlier.

seeing as he's waking up about 8 hours since he last ate, yes, he could for sure be hungry - esp. since he's willing to eat food other than nursing.
