You may be right that they're not gadgets by definition, but the poll had these listed so that's what most of us chose to comment on.

hmmm...hard to choose between a mixer and a food processor. A hand blender is useful, but you can use the food processor instead.
never needed a rice cooker. I rarely eat rice and when I do 1 cup rice plus 2 cups water in a pot or in the over works great!

I don't know how I could choose between a mixer and a food processor...
I use the FP more. But most things I do with it, I COULD do by hand: they would just take forever, like grating potatoes for latkes.
I use the mixer less, but the things it does are much harder to do by hand (whipping eggs, creaming for cakes...) Dough can be done in a food processor (just not in a big batch) and mine will whip eggs and cream, but cake batters are a tough one...
