Here's my "requirments":
1) A distinctly Jewish name
2)Easily pronouncable by non-Jews/(very!) secular family.
3) One name. I don't want an english and a hebrew name, a name that can be shortened into something "english" sounding is fine.
Some of our ideas, none of which we have agreed on.
Boy: Zachariah (Zach) ---that's about all we have right now! (HELP!!!)
Girl: Eliana, Talia, Maya, Daniella
I feel stressed out about naming this baby! My first DD is Leah (pronounced the Hebrew way), and I LOVE that, simple, easy and distinctly Jewish.
Help me!
TIA!!!

By here Lea is one of the most common names these days, so while it's very Jewish, most Leas aren't Jewish. Like most Davids, Sarahs, etc.

My mother's family is not frum and they have a hard time with any names that have a CH like: chaya, chana, chaim etc. don't start with those names.
Any name like avi, yitzi, yossi eli,Yehuda, sarah, tova, yael, devora were no problem.
Also names like Avigail were majorly mispronounced

amother,
my name requirements are very similar!
We have now a boy and a girl, and are expecting a third
Our kids are Esther and Rafael (pronounced almost the same in Hebrew and English, not common but used in English speaking countries)
For a third we are thinking of, and some we are not considering but that would fit your requirements:
for a boy: Natan, Nataniel, Emanuel (would love to also use Michael, but that's my father's name), Eitan, Ezra, David, Daniel, Dan, Avraham, Aaron
for a girl: Tova, Dina, Sara, Naomi (love this name!), Rina, Aviva, Aliza (love it but husband against!)

re: making it easy for not-frum relatives to pronounce, but in today's world, seriously who cares anymore?? I've met kids with interesting names during my experience in NYC Public Schools. Everyone is into ethnic names and in some groups it's like a contest to come up with the least pronounceable name.
And that's all over America today.
Your non-religious relatives will learn to pronounce it for someone they love. My grandparents and cousins (who are not frum) learned all of our names and my (90+ year old) grandmother has her own way of saying my sons' names, but so what?!

OP here!
I knew I would get some responses like yours, ManhattanMom, but it doesn't really matter...this is what WE (my husband and I) want/are comfortable with!
YES, I want something easily pronouncable, it's important to me.
Thanks to those of you who have given some options, I'm writing them all down to discuss with DH! Appreciate it!

My family is not frum and they do fine with both Nechama & Tzve (we call Avraham Tzvi by both names).
As far as suggestions, I didn't read through them all but I really like Gila & Rena for girls. Most girl Tanachi names I can think of are easily pronouncable (Batsheva, Devora, Sara, Rivka, Rachel, Ruth, Naomi, Na'ama).
Boys I LOVE Asher, Ezra, Elizar, Boaz. Most of Ya'akov's sons (and Ya'akov, Yitzchok would throw some for a loop but I love the name).

OP here.
Thank you all SO much! So many great suggestions!!
One question...I really like Asher, but was wondering if it is pronounced with a long A-- as in Apple, or with a U sound as in Usher? DH seems to think the latter is the correct way, but I like it with a long A.

In my experience...
As a Jewish (Hebrew) name, it is pronounced Usher (as in theatre).
As an english name, it is pronounced Ash-er (as in Ash).
