Hi everyone,
I need a meat idea - I need to know what to buy and how to cook it (I am in Israel).
I'm having a big Pareve meal Shavuos day, and then just having meat at the end to be "yotzai".
DH said he does not want another regular roast, he wants something different.
HELP!!! I don't know meat at allllllll.
please post asap!

I always get my meat sent in from America. I am not sure if they have this in Israel, but pastrami (piece of meat, not coldcuts) is really good.
I think the newcomers guide has an explanation to the cuts of meat here. At first, I was so confused when I heard someone order a number!

* Shashlik, steak--though they don't reheat well
* Brisket--sprinkle flour/salt/pepper/LOTS of paprika and sear surfaces to minimise shrinkage, just cover and cook very slow and long in liquid. I put onions/carrots/celery on the bottom of the pan, marinate in mix of dry red wine, orange juice and soy sauce.
* Beef stew/beef bourgugnon--you can use cheaper/harder cuts of meat.
* Meatballs/stuffed veggies--I think it's meaty enough for men.
How about lamb?

I made stuffed zucchini from the green Kosher by Design. My DH and kids love it.
you scoop out the inside of zuchhini leaving a hollow and stuff it with a ground meat/rice combination. You cover it with a tomato sauce mixture and bake it. Delicious and filling.

This is the cornbeef recipe I've always made. Someone else has posted it before

Boil corn beef in plain water for 1 1/2 hours, spill out water, refill with new water and boil another 1 1/2 hours. Let meat cool, then slice.
Mix on low flame: (for 4 lb meat)
2 Tbl oil (or less)
1 Tbl mustard
5 Tbl ketchup
2 Tbl vinegar
1 c. brown sugar
Pour sauce over sliced meat. Bake at 350 for 1/2 hour and baste. |
what about Salami - is that "cowy" enough? You can cook it in an Apricot sauce.

For next time. Buy a #6 roast.
Lay sliced onions in the pan. Put in the roast. Smear the roast with a bunch of crushed garlic. Mix 1.5 cups of ketchup with 1/2 cup soy sauce (or more) and pour it ove the roast. Bake covered about 3 hours - depending on how big the roast is.

Corned beef is always a hit with the men looking for "cow"! Here in Israel I would recommend using either Corned Beef from Mataam Chofetz Chaim or Hackers. Both no fail!
Boil it for 1.5 hours in a covered pot then dump that water and boil another hour. It's worth it--soft as can be! Then you can make the glaze already suggested (or any other) and bake 15 mins with the glaze. Only slice it cold!
Enjoy next time.

From Hackers, what number is it or what should I ask for to make the corned beef?
