I often hear this name combination. Was there someone named Shmuel Dovid that is often named after? Or is it just coincidence that these names are commonly put together?

Hey, my sister just had a baby named this. He had his bris on yom yerushalayim.
It goes together because dovid was the person who unified bnei yisrael when he captured yerushalayim, and shmuel hanavi's yahrtzeit was yom yerushalayim. :-D

It is a common combination that I hear often. Or maybe I just notice it because it was DH's grandfather's name, and he's really hoping for a boy so we can name after him!

In Lubavitch, it's the name of Shmuel Dovid Raichik, a yesteryear chossid who came to America during or after WW2 and went on shlichus to California... a real chossid. I don't know if any other than family are named specifically for him.

That's the name of the Klausenburger Rebbe shlit"a from Boro Park, named after his grandfather, the Neitra Rov, Rav Shmuel Dovid Ungar zt"l.

No clue about a gadol, but it was my grandfathers name so every other boy in my family is named Shmuel Dovid (from both sides)
