My DD just had to get her Iron tested for WIC and they said she is anemic. My pediatrician didnt say anything about it (not even that the levels were low!) and all they said at WIC was to give her foods with iron. Another pediatrician said it is something that should be checked out. She eats everything plus her formula IS iron-fortified already so it shouldn't be her diet.
How common is this and should I be concerned?

Here in Israel the recommendation is to give iron drops between 6 months and a year, and only then test. They say the incidence of low iron in infants is so common now that it should be automatically given. Why don't you speak to your ped about it?

My 6 year old DS was anaemic as a baby. I don't think it's that common but nothing to be worried about. Why don't you supplement with multi-vitamin drops?
