We're working on bitachon, and here are some truisms that came out of our conversations:
Hashem will provide the means for anything you need.
Anything that helps your Avodas Hashem is a need.
Therefore, your standard of living should not change based on your income.
If you need something, you don't need to nitpick about price differences.
If there are two items that will help equally in your Avodas Hashem, you choose the least expensive one, because Hashem is concerned about Jewish money. This is only if it doesn't take time away from Avodas Hashem.
Hashem will provide either money, or put the ideas in your head to make the right keli for the parnasa. Of course, you need to follow the ideas.
The only expense that should change based on income is Tzedaka.

The question is if we are objective enough to decide for ourselves what is a "need" for avodas Hashem.
