I've always bought the Haas avocados. But I often see a different kind in the supermarket - it's bigger and the skin is a much brighter green.
Anyone use these? How do they compare? Thanks!

I get those types in Israel, here sometimes depending on the season there are different kinds---haas (black and bumpy), green and bumpy, or green and smooth like you described. I use those bigger green ones just as I use the black bumpy ones (to make guacomole) and I don't see a difference. It works the same for me.

My DD in Florida has an avocado tree in her yard that grows those huge green ones. They're the same inside as the Haas ones.

They have a much sweeter taste, not as potent as regular avacado. I find they are cheaper for a reason, lacking in taste.

How do you know if they're ripe? The haas ones look blackish when they're good but I assume these work differently... I'd like to give them a try, sweeter actually sounds good to me because sometimes I find the other ones a bit too strong for my taste

Same here. I don't like them.
They should give a bit when you apply light pressure if they are ripe.

The big, green ones are good for cutting and putting into salad. On the other hand, it's not as good as Haas Avocado if you're mashing for guacamole. The big green one is more waterly and doesn't yield nice creamy consistency. They're slightly lower in calories (because of more water/less fat).

Not as good as regular avocados. Doesn't have that avocado taste as strongly as regular ones.

IMHO, those big green avocados are the Devil's own invention. They're punishment for the sin in Gan Eden. They're trying to trick you into thinking that they will be creamy and delicious, when in fact they are hard, watery and tasteless.
Don't fall for it, it's a TRAP!

On the other hand, I never had problems with the big green ones being black and spoilt inside. It's easier to guess when they're ripe, compared to Haas.
