kindle
tune in radio
a bunch of jewish apps - siddur, chumash, gemara, kosher food list.
colouring apps for kids.

do you have an iphone as well? Since I have an iphone I hardly use the ipad much. Its good for reading and watching movie clips, since size matters there. and web browsing.

facetime or skype is awesome using an ipad, if you have relatives living far.

Thanks, actually I'm considering either the ipad or the samsung galaxy tab 10.1.
I've never had any apple products and I'm nervous about the itunes; being locked in...
Do you know anything about the galaxy, if people are happy with it?

My iPad is great for school, and also for a treat for my kids. Today I had a son home with pneumonia and the iPad let me get studying done!

Kid apps: Bugs and Buttons is a current favorite of the 3-year-olds. They also love My PlayHome, which is kind of like an interactive dollhouse. My 5-year-old likes an app called Doodle Fit and another called Quell, both puzzle games, as well as PacMan and a Sudoku app for kids.

Apps for me: mainly school-related, but also Words With Friends (basically scrabble), news apps, Vtok for google chat, and a code-locked app that helps me keep track of my monthly cycle (I'm a widow so I dont keep track for niddah purposes).

I use web browsing for school, to look things up for the kids (often carry it into the yard and look up plants and insects, for example), and I'm using it right now!

It definitely doesn't replace a computer, though. I love it, but could live without it. I justified the purchase by how much use I'd get out of it for school, but I'm finding at this point that it has been even more useful with my difficult child--he knows if he behaves he gets to use the iPad while I cook dinner, and it's a great incentive for him.

Oh and of course Skype with my brother in California! Perfect for Skyping.

I have on my iphone:

HomeRoutine (really great for making lists of cleaning, flylady style and customizable, was not free)

There are lots of free ones I have for the kids. Draw, doodlebuddy,

Vonage is now running free calls to the US and Canada, so I'm using it.

I also have a bunch of card and puzzle games (angry birds, backgammon, removem, move it, rush hour, minesweeper). All of those are free, but some have pay versions also.

Grocery IQ is good for keeping track of groceries. Not sure how practical it would be on the ipad, but on the iphone I use it only in the store, etc. I think an ipad might be too big.
