I have been looking for a large griddle, but they all seem to be made out of cast iron and advertise that they are seasoned and ready to use. I assume that means they oiled or greased it. Do we need to clean and kasher it before we use it? Does it need hagalo or can it be self cleaned in a self cleaning oven?

Very Happy Obviously if I buy one I will ask a shayla, but how hard should I be looking for another option?

I once emailed the Star-K asking that and this is the exact answer I received by email:
"Pans Preseasoned – must clean and then kasher put in oven on high (550 F) for 40 minutes"

that's what my rov said to do also. well, that or the self-clean cycle if you have one.

and remember once you do that, you will need to season the pan before using it.
the unseasoned cast iron pans are so hard to find now.
