I've been covering my hair for a few years. I can't tell if my hair got darker (it probably did) or my wig got lighter (it probably did). My hair has less natural highlighting than it did.
So... now that I'm ready to get a new wig, do I get a darker one to match my hair or do I stay with the same color / highlighting?

first of all, wigs must be dyed every so often (some need every year or two to keep the proper coloring).
Choose whichever color you think looks best on you. If they both look good on you, I would choose the darker so that I could still wear it when it lightened a bit and wait a bit longer to dye again.

I cover and my sister doesn't. Both our hair darkened as we got older.
I would go with the something darker than what you like because the wigs fade.

The advantage of wearing a wig is that you can play around with the colors. I have one wig that is blackish with red streaky highlights and one that is dark brown with blonde highlights. Go with whatever you like best. As a btw, if you are older, very dark can look severe and will make you look really old and washed out.
