I kind of figured if it was real the person who started it just doesn't know and no one has the courage to say anything.

Of course the ad is real.
I saw it in all the Heimishe newspapers this week.
I'm sure the person that wrote the ad has no clue what a madam is, and chances are the same goes for most of the people reading it.

I don't know if I should laugh, cry or be happy about that.

So? They're obviously going for the more common definition of "lady." Is it also funny when someone is addressed as ma'am? *insert baffled emoticon*

Well, my daughter thinks it would be a chesed to call the owners & let them know. It's clearly a chassidish company and they are not familiar with the American vernacular. But given the number of those who are (familiar, that is), and who read these publications (although one wonders why so many of us do....), they are really going to be a laughing stock (or, I suppose, they already are).
Well, I'm not going to call up one of the distributors. They'd probably think I'm a troll, anyhow. But if anyone here knows the owners, they might want to be kind & give them a heads up.

When I saw this ad last week, my first thought was to bring it up on imamother
I enjoy this ad immensely, and it adds to my oneg shabbos every week. I hope they come up with new slogans every once in a while to keep the entertainment fresh.

There is a vast linguistic difference between madam and ma'am.

Oh I feel mean for laughing. I"m sure they were not planning to sell to Dolly Parton and the best little house of ill repute in Texas (movie buffs might get this).
All they really need to do is replace the line "...Because every woman deserves the look and feel of a Madam. " with something like "...Because every woman deserves to feel like a refined lady" which is what I think they were trying for.

Just told my husband, he cannot comprehend how none of the editors of whatever this ad was published in have noticed.

Is there really?
Because I just did a quick Google search, and it seems that it's perfectly acceptable to use Madam in this context.

OMGoodness. I saw the ad, thought this is interesting and hope it takes off, but I didn't notice the name of the company. Es chatai ani mazkir but as standard as it might be to use Madam in other contexts, I would have thought of one definitely not intended.
