Beware that a lot of financial advisers are geared toward selling you their company's products and services (commission-based) rather than helping you with your financial goals.
Can you be more specific about what you are trying to achieve? There are a lot of self-guided programs--I know a lot of people love Dave Ramsey or Suzie Ormont sp? for example and you can get their books at the library and do things on your own.
