The title says it all. When do public schools in NY start academic year?
Are schools back in August or wait till Sept after Labor Day?
I presume it's the same for upstate and NY? Are NJ schools the same?

I worry about my special needs son - if his school goes according to the public schools thre wont be school til after rosh hashana omg.

Public school students come to school Monday after labor day as far as I know. Teachers go in for meetings Tuesday and Wednesday after labor day. Then rosh Hashana is Thursday and Friday.

Frankly, I think its a much better schedule than our school, which has the kids coming in for one day, then breaking.

seriously? 1 day??
here the schools are starting the last week of August (well in the middle of the week) so they get a week of school to cram for r"h.
