You need to get licensed as LMSW by taking an exam then you have to work in a CLINICAL setting for 3 years gathering up a certain amount of hours I believe, then you take a different test and become a LCSW.

Funny,I thought LCSW is a lower rank than MSW! At least now I know that my therapist is really qualified (LCSW)

MSW is the degree. LMSW is the licensing exam you take (immediately after earning the degree) to hold pretty much any social work job. LCSW can be obtained only after you have the LMSW with specific experience, supervision and yes, another exam

I think it might depend on where you live. I live in NYC and I have my MSW going to take the test soon for my L. To get your C you need to have 2000 supervised hours in a min of 3 years.

You might want to join http://www.naswdc.org/ it can be a good resource for you.

Make sure that when you take a job you ask if the hours count towards your C. Not all social work jobs will count towards your C. If you don't need to work right away and you want to get your C I would suggest you wait for a job that will count towards your C.
