Are they live? If so, it would fall under killing on Shabbat. Do your fish eat freeze-dried ones?

Fish can generally go 24 hours without being fed. If they are live, can you feed just before candle lighting? If they are dried, it's no problem.

Bloodworms make great Pesach fish food, my fish LOVE Pesach!

DH says that if the worms are alive, it's not a shailah of "you killing them" on Shabbos, as you're not actually doing the eating of them.

There is a problem if they are not naturally aquatic, because putting them in water will definitely kill them, even if the fish don't eat them. If the worms can survive in water, then there's no shailah.

The problem could be "trapping", because if the live worms are wiggling around and trying to escape, you can't really catch them and put them either back in the container, or into the tank. I asked him what if it was a frog who needed to eat crickets, and said that was an ever bigger problem, because a cricket will most definitely try to escape.

So, if they can survive over Shabbos, feed them at the last minute.

Yes and no. Wink Go back to the "I'm a Pet Lover, ask me anything!" thread, I think I gave some views there.
