No one here mentioned the passing of Lou Reed. Perhaps the quintessential New Yorker. A man who defined cool, who arguably defined an era. Certainly not the quintessential Jew, but yet, still a Jew. According to HuffPo, when someone once asked Lou Reed if he was Jewish, he replied, "Of course, aren't all the best people?" And Israeli scientists have named a spider native to Israel after him. Its a velvet spider, that lives underground.
Here's a very strange clip of Reed speaking at a seder. Yes, a seder.

Barbara, thank you for poasting this. There are not many celebrity deaths that I'm really moved by, but I was struck a blow yesterday. I gave some thought about whether anyone would post about it here on imamother and I came to the conclusion, certainly not. I am glad I was wrong.
