What did I do wrong?

When I washed my new Wig I used color safe shampoo but even so the dye washed out. The water ran dark brown and now my wig is a lighter color.
What did I do wrong?
Was it the warm water?

afaik you didnt do anything wrong. every wash you loose some dye. what shampoo did you use? my sheital macher recommended treseme. pantene is another good choice. warm water is normally used for washing. if you lost that much color from one wash then I wonder abt the dye job.

Use cold water. It closes the cuticle of the hair.

And only use a little bit of shampoo. Just enough to see a few suds on the water. Just swish a little, don't rub. And don't rinse with strong water pressure.

It was probably dyed with semi-permanent hair color, which can give you the exact result you wish in terms of color, contrary to permanent dyes. There is nothing you can really do about it except from using less shampoo in redying it often.
