I've no idea how far Monsey is from BP, but you make it sound like the mother's having a few hours vacation.
Sorry, but I find this really sick. If someone has a baby, they should be responsible for him and having a 'vacation' when he is 8 days old and is in pain, is not being a responsible mother to me.
If someone's minhag is not to be at the bris, at least be nearby so that you can take your baby asap and give him a nursing and a cuddle.

My sister never went to her kids' brissim. I did, because I had no one to stay home with me and I wanted to hear borchu in shul anyhow. Were it up to me I probably wouldn't have gone because I had absolutely nothing to wear and had to put on a maternity outfit!
