It's funny that this thread has been revived.
I am the OP and I can tell you that, after this whole threat, I ended up with a daughter named Noa. We are IN LOVE with her name....and her. She recently celebrated her third birthday. :-)

OP again,
Sorry, typo...I should've written "After this whole THREAD I ended up with a girl named Noa".

Op again!
And to the nasty posters who think I'm trying "make up names" or who ask me why, if I don't allow my girls to wear pants (which, GASP, I do) why I'd give them a boy's name, I have only this to say to you....

I don't show up at your baby namings and roll my eyes when you introduce another Shayna Bracha or Rivka Ruchel into the community....

So, y'know, be nice.

Mazal tov! I love the name Noa. It is such a beautiful name, and I personally believe it is so feminine.

You should have a lot of nachas!

OP here

There's no particular reason...I just really like boyish names for girls. I don't know why. I noticed this fondness with English names (I have a friend whose daughter's name is Charlie (short for Charlotte) and another friend who named her daughter "Jordan", and I thought they were cute. So I wondered whether it would translate into Hebrew names...whether I would like boyish names for girls. And I do! I like Yonah and Noa (but Yonah is out because a close relative has that name), so I'm just looking for other examples that I might like!

I have a daughter named Charleigh and she doesn't wear pants. It is a totally cool name. Her close friend is named Charlie. She wears pants. A girl in her dance class is called Charlie short for Charlotte. A client like the name Charleigh so much, she named her daughter Charlie.

LOL - Noa is a woman in Tenach - one of the Bnos Tzelafchad. So it's not a "made up name" at all! It also happens to be a beautiful, beautiful name.

So funny, read this through and was going to suggest Noam which has become unisex in Israel.
