Well, also who thought it was okay to post verses from the same song... and why?

YES
The sound of silence in that thread was driving me crazy too.

Because you can't respond....it's the sound of silence. And it's been an earworm in my head for a week already, so I figured, why not spread the wealth?
Btw I just read a study that chewing gum while tapping your fingers helps stop an earworm. Something to do with motor planning.

Thanks for the hug but this earworm still won't budge. I'll be humming The Sound of Silence in my dreams tonight. SOMEONE, drive this song out of my head (btw, chewing gum and tapping my fingers didn't work)

I've heard the Star Spangled Banner is good for getting rid of earworms.

thanks, hila and penguin
I tried and tried, but even "HaKovah Sheli" is somehow morphing into The Sound of Silence.
I tried the Star Spangled Banner and it went Oh say can you see....the sound of silence.
I tried a purim medley. Still getting The Sound of Silence.
The sound of silence is really becoming quite deafening for me.

Do you know it by heart? Singing earworms the whole way through (sometimes need to rinse and repeat) is the only trick that works for me.

Most of the lyrics, yeah. That's an idea, sort of "putting it to bed". I'll try. I can't carry a tune in a bucket, so it's good I'm alone in the office right now.

No other S&G songs to displace Sound of Silence? No one was paying attention?
ETA: Thanks, Faigy86. That is not the exhaustive list though. (So far, bwahahahahaha....)

IDK. I've got Tefila l'Ani as my earworm right now. Although the Shir haMaalos that's a march (Modzitz?) pops in quite often as I march to the bathroom. Unfortunately.

I tried scarborough fair.....it turned into the sound of silence. This song is like a zombie. It's the song that never ends......(sorry if that starts another earworm for people)

Too late! And my trick can't work on that one.
Ah, never mind. I think the earworm I already had has overtaken it again. Guess I'm going to have to learn the rest of the words to Rachel Platten's "Fight Song".

I LOVE that song. Maybe I'll try singing it on top of my lungs. I wouldn't mind that as an earworm.
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
Losing friends and I'm chasing sleep
Everybody's worried about me
In too deep
Say I'm in too deep (in too deep)
And it's been two years I miss my home
But there's a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
