Is there an organization that helps with financial planning?

I'm a soon to be single mother and I need to figure out how to protect myself and figure out the chaos that STBXH created.

I'm in NY.

Thanks for any leads.

Google Mesillah. I know they have one branch in Lakewood and another in Baltimore. Perhaps there is one near you. also, there is a poster on here, I think her name is Tova, who worked for Mesillah. Maybe you can start another thread to try locating her.

Hatzlacha and I daven things should turn out well for you in all areas!!

I don't know why I had a hard time finding an American number for Mesila. Or was it the spelling I got wrong?

I will google it again. Thanks for your help!

(732)393-7192 is the Lakewood number. Perhaps they can help you.

Another vote for Mesillah. I have no personal experience with them, but this is exactly what their mission, and they have a very good reputation for what they do, though I've heard that they can be busy and hard to get ahold of, so stay persistent.

FYI Mesilla's waiting list is over a year long.

Waiting list for what? What exactly do they do?

I might need a debt consolidation referral or SOMETHING. I also need legal advice how to keep STBXH from opening new accounts with my SS#. And advice how to fight the ones he already has.

you need legal advice not just financial. ASAP.

Until you do, you could technically be responsible for stbxh's debts

Our local Jewish Family and Children's Services offers financial counseling. Might be worth checking with your local branch.

As far as opening new accounts in your SS#, you should be able to put a credit freeze on your account. The best would be to get advice from a lawyer, but in the meantime, I would check with the credit bureaus (Experian, Transunion and Equifax) about how to do it. Also look into credit monitoring services which let you know if anything new is done with your SS#.

Sounds like you need an identity theft protection account and credit monitoring.
