If you are in the country you will be able to see the shower by looking to the NE. The later in the evening the higher the displays and greater the visibility if you have a tree line in the way. It's a good night to get the kids out for some basic astronomy lessons.

I'm always disappointed by these celestial events. They're never as amazing as the pics of them on Google. I think you only get the full effect in the middle of the desert somewhere, where there's pitch darkness with absolutely zero light pollution.

Moonlight also makes meteors less visible. Meteor showers tend to peak very late at night. By then the moon will have set — moonset is at ~1AM tonight.

We used to drive out of town a ways to view the meteor showers but this year the promise of clear skies kept us home. There is not a lot of light pollution where we live so viewing isn't really compromised. Among the 5 of us we were able to count between 150 and 200 meteors a person. The kids are really into astronomy and this was pretty exciting for them. Of course everyone is dragging today, we were out until after 1. Luckily no one works today (my husband and I both teach in public schools and have summers off) so it will be a slow day for everyone.
