I'm shocked! You're rebbe does not know Sefer Shmuel. Avigail was the wife of David Hamelech. That is beyond wierd that he wouldn't know that name.
Maybe you mean he hadn't heard of the English form Abigail? Or had he not heard of the woman in the Tanach Avigail?!

I like hodayah and tehilah. My community does not give but I like those. I believe hodayah is less common than tehila.

Do you live in Israel? In Israel these 2 names are very popular in all religious circles.

In fact, most of the Hebrew names that were listed here are pretty popular in Israel - and even those that are rarer are not what can be considered 'obscure'. I have no idea about the Yiddish ones.
That is why I asked OP for clarification.
It's kind of ridiculous to expect us to offer names w/o more particulars like: gender, what kind of community OP belongs to and where she lives and the degree of obscurity that she is seeking.

Which country and which circles are you in? I was quite surprised by some of the (beautiful) names that are accepted in my chareidi community.

Thank you all so much!
I'm in the US, and looking for names for both boy and girl, and I'm really glad you gave me so many ideas!
Yes, certainly there are names that work in Israel but not here and I will take that into consideration, and at the same time I'm trying to find something that would go well in both countries since moving to Israel is possible at some point.

They are indeed common (in Israel), but -aside from Michal - you'll find them mostly in the over-70 crowd.
Michal trends younger too.
