I do tax preparation for a few clients.
There is no licensing requirement in NYS in order to do this.
What kind of credentials are you referring to? CPA licensing?

I was in taxes in CA and we were licensed and bonded. Assumed it was similar elsewhere. It was in the early 2000s. We had to do hours of continuing ed each year.
