Well in nachlei Emunah sometimes Frumy Horowitz gives a bungalow to a cancer patient for shabbos as a respite. People are not fair or responsible

Why so worried about measles? You should be way more nervous about ticks. Ticks and lyme disease are rampant in the mountains. Way more common and dangerous. No one to blame, and no one spreading hysteria about lyme so nobody thinks twice about it. Speaking as a mom of DC who got chronic lyme from tick bite in monticello one summer. DC had temporary paralysis, bells palsy and other scary side effects of lyme.

People are always checking their kids and removing ticks and I don't think that a person who has Lyme can pass it to someone else. I agree that the summer has plenty of hazards but many are somewhat preventable, such as measles.

Lyme disease is not contagious and is in a very different category then measles
Furthermore not sure what your talking about but everyone I know makes sure to check their kids daily.

We are talking about people who are not feeling well, recklessly visiting a bungalow colony for shabbos that is known to host cancer /immunocompromised patients for many years. Lesson, if u don't feel well, stay home, esp now that there a measles outbreak.
Btw, every single year hstzoloh very strongly begs that people not bring their elderly or sick family members to the mountains because ur putting them at risk. Hstzoloh tries their best in an emergency, but unfortunately it is much harder to get patients where they'll get proper care to save their lives when they're in the mountains. People seem to ignore this consistently.....

Nachlei emunah is a huge open house town like place! Anyone can walk in there- I’m not saying its right for people to go in with measles- just as its not ok to go in anywhere with measles- but dont make it sound like its a safe haven

On the one hand, sick people need sunshine and fresh air but the hospitals there are apparently lower quality than city hospitals.

....you're joking, right? You can prevent ticks pretty easily. Immunocompromised people can take measures to defend themselves from ticks. People are constantly checking. If someone gets bitten, they can still remove it before anything bad happens.
Seriously??? Are you comparing???

Kind of like swimming in dirty water or without a lifeguard because everyone is going to get Lyme anyway so might as well live dangerously.

did you read NY DOH website?
it states that vaccination for camps is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but not required.
unless the camp is on a college campus
which camps exactly are not taking unvaccinated children?
I'm glad that I don't know any
I am not talking about requesting Measles immunity. I can understand that, It's very hard to keep every child with cold like symptoms isolated in camp
the parents have a choice to vax or expose beforehand... |
My DD camp does not allow any girls that are not vaccinated. The following is an email they sent out to parents
"We have been notified by the NYS Department of health that there will be a $2,000 fine imposed for any girl/camper or staff without an immunization record. Simply put, if we do not have a complete immunization record, you cannot come to camp. Please email your updated immunization form today and avoid any unnecessary aggravation."

That ticks need to be on for 24 hours to get lyme is a myth. You can get lyme from a single tick bite that is on just for a few hours.

Lyme.
Disease.
Is.
Not.
Contagious.
It's also possible for an immunocompromised person to prevent. ALSO, an immunocompromised person is not gonna lock themselves up in solitary confinement because of tics.

Also there are plenty of sprays Available to use on self and grass can be treated (which many camps/ colonies do).

People are much more aware of Lyme these days then in the past and take precautions and check body daily for ticks.
And, no worries, doctors are prewarning about it as well. At our well visit before the summer we got a “tick/Lyme safety” talk from ped.
One doesn’t negate the others. Measles is bad & Lyme is bad but both are transmitted differently. With one you have an achrayus To avoid exposure due to contagiousness and with the other you have to check on yourself and kids daily if you’re in a tick infested area.
May Hashem protect us from all illness.
