I'm making pepper steak for the main course. About 35 adults will be eating, but there will be a lot of salads and sides.
How much meat should I order? I was thinking about 6 pounds of meat, sliced by the butcher. Is this too little or too much?

That's a lot of meat! As I said, there will be peppers and onions in the dish. Plus a ton of sides...

11.5 pounds. And you'll need to plate the portions or else there won't be enough to go around.

I was going to say 10-11 lbs. you might have leftovers but I would want to make sure you have enough

I once heard 1/4lb per person, but that is when there are other protein options.

How many ounces of protein, would you consider appropiate per person, as main? Figure like that.
On low fat/weight loss diets 4 oz of proteins is recommended
For reg diets I think 8 oz is considered a reg portion

Even at a 1/4 lb per person( totaling 8.75 lb of meat), 6 lbs is too little

Right you would need 8.75 lbs of meat to cover 4 ounces of meat, per person, for 35 people.

In something like pepper steak, the general rule is 1/4 to 1/3 pound per person. So for 35 adults, that's 9 to 11-1/2 pounds. 6 pounds is WAY too little -- less than 3 ounces (before cooking) per person.

Don't forget the meat is going to shrink about 25% in cooking. 4oz will become 3 oz. This is too little for the men.

Also depends what else you are serving. Fish? Soup? If everyone is getting a big piece of fish, less meat is ok. But still I would allow 1/4 per person.

Rather give generous chicken then small (tiny) portions of meat... pepper steak shrinks a lot.
U can also do half pepper steak and half stir fry chicken.
ya is the totally of ppl including some young children?
Also, when being so exacting it is safer to plate. If u pass around dishes they may get empty too fast
