I have a great recipe for Red lentil soup! It comes out a dark orange color and is thick textured. Our families favourite winter warmer soup and I get lots of compliments from guests.....
1 large onion (diced), 10 large carrots (grated on larger size if you have), 1 packet split red lentils (about the size of a cholent bean mix bag), 4 tablespoons Tomato paste. plenty of salt, garlic powder to taste (about 1/2 tablespoon). Water to cover/to desired thickness.
Fry onion, add all the rest and boil till lentils are dissolved about 3hrs. ( I do it I a pressure cooker for about 50mins) ENJOY!
