Depending on context, it can also be pretended not to see or notice.
The suggestions before mine are very good.

Didn't pay attention to
Didn't focus on
Played dumb
But I agree that didn't acknowledge is probably the closest.

I am ignoring my child's silly behavior
I am not taking his comments personally, I am totally ignoring it. I am not letting it bother me.
Don't make a fuss, when someone bullies you, just ignore them & go your way, so they will stop.
I am not even interested in what my mil says, I don't let her comments get to me.
So all these can be the translation of " zich nisht visendig machen"
Depends on context

You can also say that you are not making a big deal or to do

I didn't acknowledge her simcha with a visit or a gift, did you ignore/miss the occasion on purpose or did you just forget?
You didn't celebrate/join along/participate in the simcha

Why can't you just say, I am sorry that I didn't help you, when you had the baby. Dont worry, I didn't forget about you, I was just so busy/overwhelmed but I really do want to give you a hand, so let me know how I can be of help. I want to send you supper, can you tell me which day it's needed or I am sure that if I send you supper you will still accept even if it's not immediately after the birth.

So in this case I wouldn't use ignore.
I'd say like dankbar said "sorry I wasn't there for you at your simcha."

I would have said “pretended not to notice”. Because the term applies that you noticed, but ignored for some beneficial purpose.

Acknowledge the simchah would be more appropriate than playing dumb or pretending not to notice a simchah.

Correct. Ignored or playing dumb sounds mean and intentional.
Op it sounds more like you feel bad that you didn't put in the effort to acknowledge this simcha, rather than having ignored it, which just sounds nasty.
