To me Smokey sounded hurt and defensive.
Not bragging.

Smokey, when I mentioned empty state-of-the-art kitchens, I was not referring to you. I don't know why you are so defensive. Several people mentioned them (see above comment), and all I said was that I have no desire for a kitchen 'just for show', and in fact think it's wasteful.
I don't see what could be controversial or offensive about my comment. If you use your kitchen, great, I wasn't referring to you.

There's nothing wrong with having a kitchen for show.

I think the Obamas have a show kitchen.

Not that the Obamas are the standard setters for kitchens, but it's a normal thing.

It's not wasteful because it doesn't use up.

That's 3 lifestyle put downs in one thread. |
Ummmm....isn't it judgmental to call someone judgmental?

Not your problem and not necessarily true. I actually enjoy looking at a stunning sparkling clean kitchen.

Absolutely not true. My soul is happy when I am surrounded by clean, neat spaces. The more sparkling clean, the better. I'd rather eat toast with peanut butter smeared with the same knife each day than cook and make a mess (but I do cook for my family multiple times a day, make a mess, and clean up right away). I hate going to sleep with mess in the kitchen. When my home is sparkling clean, I feel free, happy, productive.
Due to my lifestyle and finances, this is a dream for now, and other than twice a week for one hour after the cleaning woman leaves, my home doesn't look like that. But I sincerely appreciate cleanliness and would love to have a few designated "mess rooms" with the rest of the house constantly sparkling clean and neat.

Usually it is a choice women make, but the bottom line is that married male CEOs can afford to have the comforts of marriage and children because there is a wife taking care of it all (even if she works f/t, she is usually doing the bulk of the multi-tasking and child-rearing). A married female CEO with children will find it a lot more difficult to focus at work and get ahead - her husband isn't doing all the legwork necessary to keep the home running in the background.
Of course there are exceptions. |
Or maybe it's because even brilliant and successful women choose to put more effort into their children than into their career. Girl power!

Yes I think that’s it.
This statistic makes lots of sense and is a badge of honour for all of us, choosing to invest in what really matters!

I live in a large home
12 bedrooms
9 bathrooms
When we built our house I cried so hard
I said Hashem I want another baby, I don’t need this house, I want my father to be healthy and live to see me have another child. My sister should have peace with her mental demons
My Rav said to me; you don’t get to pick what Hashem gives you.
So to answer your question;
I see you ;
Pushing your kids to the park laughing and smiling with your parents when they come visit how your husband goes to night Seder and learns.
I wish I lived in a small house with what you have in your enriched life
I’d give it all up

Hugs. And there’s nothing wrong if you enjoy your house.
It’s not either or. We can’t return/ exchange, Everyone got different circumstances and different tools to accomplish in life what their specific neshama needs to do here.
If you’d be in a small house would things be better? We all got challenges and gifts to help us cope and handle....
I’m so happy for you that you have a nice big house. Enjoy it!!
And may you have another healthy child and happiness in all other areas as well!!

Oh, this makes more sense!
You're right, we don't choose our blessings. But you might as well enjoy fully the blessings you do have.
